Violent Encounters And Their Aftermath
In the Shooting Fundamentals lesson, we briefly cover a number of “automated responses” that typically accompany what is generally referred to as a “critical incident,” which is an antiseptic way of referring to a violent attack. We explain that those automated responses would most likely include the motor cortex locking your head and eyes onto the knife or gun in the hands of the attacker; and the automated response of dropping into a crouch and orienting to face the attacker. In this lesson, we’ll not only explain more details around those physical responses, we’ll also explain a number of physiological responses that will most likely occur as well, including tunnel vision, auditory exclusion and even memory loss or false memories. To do that we’re going to take you on a guided tour of the brain and nervous system, where we’ll explain not only what responses you’ll most likely experience, but we’ll explain why they happen as well. Pay particularly close attention to the “Training Tips” that we’ve outlined for each topic. These tips are designed to help you embrace each of the physical and physiological responses into your training plan in order to “train the way you’ll fight.”
